Sermon Title: “Let Us Go Over to the Other Side” – Going Deeper into Jesus
Scripture: Mark 8:13–21
📖 Message Summary
Throughout the Gospel of Mark, Jesus repeatedly invites His disciples into the boat, onto the road, and into experiences that will deepen their faith. Sometimes those journeys include storms. Sometimes the disciples misunderstand what Jesus is teaching. But each experience becomes an opportunity for Jesus to reveal more of who He is and to form His character within them.
In Mark 8, the disciples worry about having forgotten bread even after witnessing Jesus miraculously feed thousands. Jesus calls them to remember—to look back at His faithfulness and provision and allow what they have already experienced with Him to shape their faith today. The same invitation is given to us. Following Jesus means continuing to listen, learn, trust, and allow Him to take us deeper rather than settling into familiarity or mere religiosity.
Jane illustrated this through 50 years of ministry in Argentina. What began as what she expected to be a three-year commitment became a lifetime of following God through one open door after another—serving vulnerable communities, children, trafficking victims, the homeless, developing leaders, and making disciples. The Christian life is a venture of faith. We do not always know what waits on the other side, but we know the One who asks us to get into the boat.
Going deeper with Jesus also means allowing Him to transform the way we live. Even storms, suffering, and unexpected difficulties can become places where God strengthens our faith. Our calling is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, abide in Him, bear lasting fruit, and faithfully follow wherever He leads.

🔑 Key Lessons
Remember God’s faithfulness.
Jesus challenged the disciples to remember what they had already seen Him do. Looking back at God’s provision strengthens our faith for what lies ahead.
Storms can take us deeper.
Difficult seasons can expose where our faith is weak and teach us greater dependence on Christ.
Following Jesus requires obedience.
We may not know where the journey will lead, but faith means stepping through the doors God opens and trusting Him with what comes next.
Abide in Jesus and bear fruit.
The goal is not simply to know Scripture, but to let Christ transform how we live, love, serve, and help others grow as disciples.
