Message Summary
Many influential men throughout history have been remembered as the “fathers” of great ideas, discoveries, and nations. Yet the legacy of a responsible father—one who provides, protects, guides, and invests in his children—is no less significant. Responsible fathers contribute greatly to the well-being of their families, but Father’s Day can also be difficult for those whose earthly fathers were absent, harmful, or unable to provide the love and guidance they needed.
Rather than removing the language of fatherhood from our understanding of God, Jesus reveals that we have a perfect Father who is goodness itself and who loves His children deeply. Scripture describes God as the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its name. His fatherhood becomes the standard by which all earthly fatherhood is understood, healed, and shaped.
God the Father provides generously, giving good gifts and extending His common grace to all people. He disciplines lovingly, not to reject His children, but to correct them, shape their character, and lead them toward holiness. He restores broken relationships, turning the hearts of fathers toward their children and children toward their fathers. Most importantly, the Father sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, so that all who turn to Him may receive forgiveness, everlasting life, and the assurance that they are beloved children of God.
Through Jesus, we can truly know the Father. Christ continues to invite the weary and burdened to come to Him and find rest. In Him, the Spirit bears witness that we have been rescued, valued, and adopted into God’s family, allowing us to cry, “Abba! Father!”
