Sermon Title:The Keys to the Kingdom
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:3–6

Pastor Frank Dodson reminded us that following Jesus comes with responsibility. Christianity is more than simply believing; Jesus calls His people to become disciples who hear His Word, obey it, and participate in the work He has given His Church to do. Salvation is not the finish line—it is the beginning of a life of discipleship and service.
Drawing from Jesus’ words in Matthew 16, Pastor Frank described the Church as the ekklesia—the “called-out ones.” Jesus did not build His Church merely to gather inside buildings, but to strengthen, equip, and send His people into the world. When Jesus declared that “the gates of hell shall not prevail,” Pastor Frank emphasized a Church moving forward rather than simply remaining on the defensive.
Jesus has also entrusted His people with “the keys of the kingdom.” Keys represent access, authority, and responsibility. God has given His Church spiritual resources that cannot be replaced by human strength alone. As 2 Corinthians 10 reminds us, “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God.” The real battle requires spiritual weapons.
Among those kingdom keys are worship and prayer, while the Holy Spirit empowers believers and activates the spiritual gifts God has given His Church. Rather than becoming discouraged by the condition of the world, believers are called to recognize what God has already placed in their hands. Jesus is still building His Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. We have been given a responsibility—and through Christ, we have also been given what we need to fulfill it.

🔑 Key Lessons
1. Discipleship requires responsibility.
Jesus calls us not simply to believe, but to obey His Word, grow as disciples, and participate in His mission.
2. The Church is called to advance.
Jesus is building and strengthening His people to go into the world with courage rather than simply remaining safely inside the walls of the church.
3. Spiritual battles require spiritual weapons.
Our ultimate struggle is not against other people. God equips us through His Spirit to confront spiritual strongholds with weapons that are “mighty in God.”
4. Use the keys God has given you.
Prayer and worship are not meant to remain unused, and the spiritual gifts God gives His Church are empowered by the Holy Spirit. God equips His people so they can faithfully accomplish the work He has called them to do.

Where might I be trying to fight a spiritual battle primarily through my own strength?
Which of the “keys” God has given His Church—such as prayer, worship, and spiritual gifts—do I need to use more intentionally as I rely on the Holy Spirit’s power?
What responsibility has God placed before me that I need to approach with greater obedience and boldness?
